1972-1974:      Official at the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP, by its Spanish initials).

1974-1979:      Third Secretary of the Embassy of Cuba in the Republic of Iraq.

1979-1981:      Official at the North Africa and Middle East Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

1981-1986:      First Secretary and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Cuba in the Arab Republic of Egypt.

1986-1991:      Head of Department, North Africa and Middle East Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

1991-1994:      Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Cuba in the Republic of Zimbabwe.

1984-1991:      Expert in International Legal Affairs at the Permanent Secretariat for COMECON Affairs (SPAC, by its Spanish initials) of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba.

1991-1997:      Official at the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba.

1997-1999:      First Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Justice.

1999-2004:      First Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation.
