Myanmar and Cuba strengthen bilateral relations

MYANMAR, September 17, 2018.- The Hon. Mr. Kyaw Tint Swe, Minister for the Office of the State Counselor and Chancellor of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Ambassador of Cuba, Héctor Conde Almeida, held a meeting in which both parties acknowledged the good path of the bilateral relations and reiterated the mutual will to continue expanding the friendly ties between both peoples and governments.

In the cordial exchange, also atended by officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Asian country, reaffirmed the importance of joining forces in defense of the unity, dignity and sovereignty of developing countries and to maintain close cooperation in the various multilateral forums, including those related to the achievement of the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals, South-South cooperation; FOCALAE; the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries (NAM); the Paris Agreement on Climate Change; as well as support for the United Nations Treaty on the total prohibition of nuclear weapons.

The Cuban diplomat presented Cuba’s Report, corresponding to 2018, pursuant to Resolution 72/4 of the General Assembly of the United Nations on the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba.

The Minister and the Ambassador assessed ways to strengthen cooperation in fields such as education, health, biotechnology, sports and direct bilateral trade for the benefit of both peoples. (Cubaminrex-EmbaCuba Tailandia)
