Cuban president expressed his condolences on the death of Ayatollah Rafsanjani

IRÁN, January 9th, 2017.- Army General Raul Castro Ruz, president of the Councils of State and Ministers of the Republic of Cuba, sent a message to his counterpart Hassan Rouhani, president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to express condolences after the death on January 8th of Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, former Iranian president and one of the historic leaders of the 1979’s Islamic Revolution.

In his message, the Cuban dignitary asked to extend his sympathies to the relatives of the late Iranian leader.

Throughout his political career, Rafsanjani contributed to the strengthening of ties of friendship and collaboration between Cuba and Iran. During his period as president of the country, important projects of scientific and commercial cooperation between the two nations began.

As Chairman of the Expediency Council of the Islamic Republic, Rafsanjani received Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz during his official visit to Iran in 2001. (CubaMinrex-EmbaCuba Irán)
