Cuba and Micronesia establish diplomatic relations

PAPUA NEW GUINEA, 9 September 2015.  In the framework of the 46thPacific Islands Forum meeting which is taking place in this capital city, the official ceremony of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the Federated States of Micronesia took place.
 
The historical event was attended by His Excellency Mr. Peter M. Christian, President of the Pacific nation, who held a cordial exchange of views with the Director General of Bilateral Affairs of the Cuban Foreign Affairs Ministry Gerardo Penalver Portal, context in which both sides welcomed the decision to formalize the ties between the two countries, while they explored ways of developing bilateral cooperation and strengthening the ties of friendship, as well as to enhance coordination within the framework of the international organizations on issues of interest to both nations.
 
The transcendental document was signed by Mr. Carlson D. Apis, Acting Secretary of the Foreign Affairs Department and Gerardo Penalver Portal, Director General, representing the governments of Micronesia and Cuba, respectively.
 
The ceremony was also attended by His Excellency Mr. Lorin Robert, Foreign Affairs Minister of Micronesia, Mr. Carson M. Mongkeya, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Pacific Affairs of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of that country and other members of his delegation, while from the Cuban side the Ambassador Maria del Carmen Herrera Caseiro and the Counsellor Manuel Sanchez Oliva were present. (Cubaminrex/ Embacuba Nueva Zelanda)
