NEW YORK, June 6, 2017.- The High-Level United Nations Conference to Support the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: “Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development”, was inaugurated within the framework of the United Nations General Assembly, coinciding with the celebration of World Environment Day.

Cuba participates in debate on UNDP Strategic Plan (2018-2021)

NEW YORK, May 31, 2017.- In debate dedicated to the UNDP Strategic Plan (2018-2021), celebrated during the 2017 Annual Session of the Executive Board of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS, the Deputy Director of International Economic Bodies at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Carlos Fidel Martín Rodríguez, made accurate considerations related with the first draft of the given plan, highlighting the importance that the UNDP offers priority and keeps up the attention to development-related issues as main task and core of its activities.

Cuba deposits instrument of ratification to “The Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol on Liability and Redress to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety”

NEW YORK, April 26, 2017. - The United Nations Organization headquarters hosted the ceremony for the deposit of the instrument of ratification of the Republic of Cuba to “The Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol on Liability and Redress to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety”.

The deposit ceremony was held with the presence of the Director of the UN Treaty Division, Mr. Santiago Villalpando, who received this instrument and, on behalf of the Secretary-General, expressed appreciation for Cuba’s adherence to this treaty.

NEW YORK, April 4, 2017.- On behalf of Cuba, Ambassador Humberto Rivero Rosario, participated yesterday in consultations on intergovernmental negotiations on Security Council reform. As regards sub-item related to the regional representation and size of an enlarged Council, he pointed out that the regional representation requires to be rebalanced, as it does not reflect geopolitical realities. “Undoubtedly, developing countries are under-represented in the Council”, he commented.
