United Nations recognizes Cuba for its contribution to the Organization’s budget in 2018

New York, February 21, 2018. - During the briefing by the Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary-General, held at noon on February 19, Cuba's contribution to the United Nations was recognized, having paid in full its assessed contribution to the Organization's regular budget for 2018. Including the island, there are 53 nations that have fulfilled this important financial obligation.

Cuba reaffirms the importance of the Charter of the United Nations and the leading role of the General Assembly

NEW YORK, 20 February 2018. The promotion of respect for the Charter of the United Nations, as well as the preservation and strengthening of the leading role of the General Assembly as the principal normative, deliberative, policy-making and representative body of the United Nations, are vitally important, Ambassador Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations said during her statement to the Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations and of the strengthening of the role of the organization.

On behalf of the Cuban Government , I have the pleasure to convey our greetings to all participants at the 41st session of the annual Governing Council of IFAD. I congratulate the Board elected to guide the sessions.

Cuba reaffirms the responsibility of the United Nations in maintaining international peace and security

 

NEW YORK, 20 February 2018. During the general debate of the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations, held recently at United Nations, Ambassador Anayansi Rodriguez Camejo, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations reaffirmed the primary responsibility of the organization in maintaining international peace and security and the essential role of the General Assembly in these matters.

Reelected Cuba Vice-Chair of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People

NEW YORK, 8 February 2018. The Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Mrs. Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, was re-elected as Vice-Chair of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, based on a decision adopted by acclamation by all members of the aforementioned Committee, at a plenary meeting held with the presence of UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, last february 5th.

Cuba calls for an immediate reform of the Security Council to ensure credibility and legitimacy of the United Nations

 NEW YORK, 7 February 2018. Ambassador Anayansi Rodriguez Camejo, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, called for a genuine and profound reform of the Security Council, to convert it into an effective, transparent, representative, democratic body in line with developments of the United Nations and international relations.

Cuba gives priority to national policy in favor of children and young people, despite the limitations caused by the US blockade on the island

NEW YORK, February 7, 2018. "Despite the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on my country, Cuba continues to make progress in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, where children and young people have a crucial role", said Juan Miguel Gonzalez Peña, First Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations, at the first regular session of the UNICEF Executive Board.

Cuba supports a genuine and profound UN Security Council reform

Cuba upholds its commitment to nuclear disarmament and deposits the Instrument of Ratification of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

New York, 30 January 2018. Ambassador Anayansi Rodriguez Camejo, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, deposited today the Instrument of Ratification of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons on behalf of the Republic of Cuba, in a ceremony held at the UN headquarters in New York. This action shows Cuba’s commitment to the promotion of nuclear disarmament, to which it gives the highest priority in the field of disarmament. Cuba has been the fifth country to ratify the Treaty.
